SICILY. Messana. 478-476 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.32 g, 3 h). Charioteer, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left, driving biga of mules to right; in exergue, laurel leaf. Rev. MESSEИ-IO-И Hare springing right. Caltabiano Series IIB, 57.5 ( this coin, D32/R29). HGC 2, 779. Randazzo 99-100 ( same obverse die ) and 114-5 ( same reverse die ). Attractively toned and with a fine pedigree. Struck from slightly worn dies and with light marks, otherwise, very fine.
