SICILY. Gela. Circa 480/75-475/70 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 8.66 g, 11 h). Nude bearded warrior riding horse to right, brandishing spear in his right hand and holding reins in his left. Rev. CΕΛΑΣ Forepart of the river-god Gelas, in the form of a man-headed bull, to right. HGC 2, 363. Jenkins, Gela 99 (O30/R54). Nicely toned. Numerous scrapes and scratches and the obverse struck from a worn die, otherwise, about very fine.
