CALABRIA. Tarentum. Punic occupation, circa 212-209 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 17 mm, 3.70 g, 2 h), Sokanas, magistrate. Warrior holding filleted palm frond in his right hand and reins in his left, on horse walking right; below, ΣΩKΛN-NΛ[Σ]. Rev. TAPAΣ Phalanthos, holding kantharos in his left hand and trident in his right, riding dolphin left; to right, eagle standing left, wings spread. HN Italy 1082. Vlasto 984-6. Lustrous and fresh. Minor deposits, otherwise, virtually as struck.
