Description

★ A winged Roma ★

UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Quinarius' (Gold, 15 mm, 2.50 g, 12 h). ƆON OZΛ Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed imperial bust to right. Rev. O ƆO ZC (counterclockwise and read outwardly) Winged figure seated left, holding uncertain object in his/her right hand. Suspension loop broken off, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

The figure on the reverse probably is supposed to be Roma, with the 'wings' being her disjointed left arm and a spear, whereas the object in her right hand is Victory.
