Description

UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Quinarius' (Gold, 15 mm, 2.66 g, 12 h), imitating Elagabalus, 218-222. IΛꟼIO ΛꟼIΛꟼII Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus to right. Rev. ΛOIꟼΛƆV VOIꟼΛIV Victory advancing right, holding long scepter in her left hand. Holed and with a thin flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

The style of the portrait and the winged figure on the reverse of this charming little coin are quite similar to lot 796 above - perhaps the dies were crafted by the same artist?
