EGYPT. Antinoöpolis. Antinoüs, died 130. Tessera (Lead, 20 mm, 4.69 g, 12 h), 2nd to 3rd centuries. Nilus riding hippopotamus to left, holding grain ears in his right hand and cornucopiae in his left. Rev. L - B Confronted busts of Antinoüs, draped and wearing hem-hem crown, and Isis, draped and wearing headdress. J.G. Milne: Lead Tokens from Memphis, in: Ancient Egypt (1915), p. 115 = Rostovtsev & Prou 665-6. Very rare. Sharply struck on a full flan and in exceptional condition for the issue, arguably the finest known. Extremely fine.
