The significance of the letters and monograms on the early Provincial coinage of Pompeiopolis is often unclear: sometimes these are dates, but we frequently do not understand their meaning. It is possible that AN on the obverse is to be read as year 51, which would date the coin to 16/5 or 15/4 BC, as the era of the city started in 67/6 or 66/5 BC, but this is far from being certain.
