Description

★ Of fine style ★

BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 400-325 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.57 g, 7 h). Head of Hera Lakinia facing slightly to the right, wearing stephane ornamented with palmettes. Rev. ΚΡΟΤΩΝΙΑΤΑN Youthful Herakles seated to left on a rock draped with his lion skin, holding one-handled cup in his right hand and resting his left on his club; below, bow. HN Italy 2167. SNG ANS 371 ( same obverse die ). SNG Lloyd 616 ( same dies ). A lovely and unusually complete example of fine style. Some horn silver, otherwise, good very fine.

From an important collection of coins from Magna Graecia and Punic Sicily, formed in the 1990s and early 2000s.
