Michael Alethinos, 13th century. Seal (Lead, 34 mm, 22.26 g, 12 h). M - [X] The archangel Michael standing facing, nimbate and dressed as a general, holding a sword upright in his right hand. Rev. [NO]ⲰN Φ/[ЄP]ICTЄ MIXA/[HΛ] C ON OIKЄTHN / [CV]NⲰNVM૪N/[TA T]ON AΛ HΘI/[NO]N CKЄΠЄ ("Michael, strongest among the spirits of heaven, protect your servant, who bears the same name"). Campagnolo/Cheynet, Zacos Geneva 310. A magnificent late Byzantine seal. Partial flatness and a minor scratch on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
