Description

ITALY. Sicilia (Regno). Federico I (Federico II, Sacro Romano Impero), 1198-1250. Tari (Gold, 11 mm, 1.24 g), Brindisi or Messina, 1209-1220. A pseudo-Kufic legend around a central pelleted rosette within a double circle. Rev. At the sides of a cross on a long shaft, ‘IC – XC / NI – KA’, the abbreviated form of Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς νικᾷ (‘Jesus Christ conquers’ in Greek). MIR 69. Spahr 82. Struck on an irregular flan and with light deposits, otherwise, very fine.
