Description

ISLAMIC, Ottoman Empire. Salim II, AH 974-982 / AD 1566-1574. Sultani (Gold, 21 mm, 3.41 g, 3 h), Misr, AH 974 = AD 1566/7. Within a circle, ‘ḍārib al-naḍr / ṣāḥib al-ʿizz wa al-naṣr fī / al-barr wa al-baḥr’ (‘Gold striker, owner of glory and victory, in the land and sea’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a circle, ‘Sulṭān Salīm / ibn Sulayman Khān / ʿazza naṣruhū ḍuriba fī / Miṣr sana / 974’ (‘Sultan Salim son of Sulayman Khan. May his victory be honoured! Struck in Misr, year 974’ in Arabic). Album 1324. Minor scratches, otherwise, very fine.
