Description

ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Pashiz (Bronze, 21 mm, 3.70 g, 1 h), DA (Darabjird), AH 68 = AD 687/8. Sasanian style bust to right; behind and before head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); in outer margin, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah' in Kufic) and MN (in Pahlawi). Rev. Bearded figure standing facing, placing both hands on sword in front of him; to left, name of the mint in Pahlawi and to right, date in Pahlawi. Älbum 45.1. Gyselen, type 12 var. (reverse legends interchanged). Rare. Two edge cracks, otherwise, good fine.
