Description

PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Time of Artaxerxes III to Darios III, circa 350-333 BC. AE (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.66 g), uncertain mint in Ionia or Caria. Persian king or hero in kneeling/running stance to right, holding spear in his right hand and bow in his left. Rev. Two concentric squares; line projecting outward from one side of the outer square. Johnston, Earliest, Æ 4. SNG Tübingen 2754 (Memnon of Rhodes?). Sunrise 72. Very fine.
