Description

ISLAMIC, Persia (Post-Mongol). Zands. Muhammad Karim Khan, AH 1164-1193 / AD 1751-1779. 1/4 Mohur (Gold, 20 mm, 2.75 g, 5 h), type C, Yazd, AH 1178/1179 = 1764-1766. The Zand couplet and the date, ‘shod āftāb-o māh zar-o sim dar jahān, az sekke-ye emām-e be haq sāhebozzamān. 1178’ (‘The sun and moon became gold and silver in the world / From the coin of the rightful Imam, the Age’s Lord. 1178’ in Persian). Rev. Within a central dotted circle, ‘zarb-e dār al-ʿibāda Yazd 1179’ (‘Struck in the Abode of Worship Yazd. 1179’ in Persian); above, ‘yā Karīm’ (‘O Generous One’ in Arabic). Album 2791. In NGC encapsulation, graded UNC DETALS, BENT. Flan somewhat bent, otherwise, extremely fine.
