ISLAMIC, Persia (Post-Mongol). Afsharids. Shah Rukh, second reign, AH 1163-1168 / AD 1750-1755. Ashrafi (Gold, 13 mm, 3.21 g), type D, Mashhad, undated. Traces of the couplet ‘dobāre dowlat-e Irān gereft az sar javāni rā, be nām-e Shāhrokh zad sekke-ye sāhebqerāni rā’ (‘For the second time the state of Iran has taken on youthful vigour, [for] it struck auspicious coins in the name of Shah Rukh’ in Persian). Rev. Within a circle, ‘zarb-e Mashhad-e moqaddas’ (‘Struck in Holy Mashhad’ in Persian). Album A2780. Rare and very well preserved. Extremely fine.
