★ An unpublished tetradrachm from Gaza ★
PHILISTIA (PALESTINE). Gaza. Mid 5th century-333 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.13 g, 9 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves and palmette. Rev. AΘE Owl standing right, head facing; to left, olive sprig and crescent; to lower right, 'Ayin; all within incuse square. Gitler & Tal -, cf. V.10D (drachm with 'Ayin in left field). HGC -. Apparently unpublished as a tetradrachm, a highly important piece. Graffito of 'A' on the obverse and of 'Λ' on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
This type from Gaza with the 'Ayin on the right side of the owl was previously known only as a drachm with the 'Ayin in the left field, this tetradrachm thus nicely complements the series.
