Description

★ A beautiful rendering of Neptune in honor of Agrippa, victor of the naval battle at Actium ★

Agrippa, died 12 BC. As (Copper, 28 mm, 11.10 g, 6 h), Rome, struck under Caligula, 37-41. M•AGRIPPA•L•F•COS•III Head of Agrippa to left, wearing rostral crown. Rev. S - C Neptune, nude except for cloak hanging over his left shoulder and his right arm, standing front, head to left, holding small dolphin in his right hand and trident in his left. BMC 161. CBN 77. Cohen 3. RIC 58. An attractive coin with a bold portrait and a particularly detailed reverse. Minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, extremely fine.

Ex Leu 13, 27 May 2023, 241 and previously from the Aes Augustorum Collection, formed since the late 1990s.
