Description

★ Of lovely style and with a wonderful old cabinet tone ★

CAMPANIA. Neapolis. Circa 300-275 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 19 mm, 7.43 g, 1 h), Charileos, magistrate. Diademed head of a nymph to right, wearing triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace; behind, astragalos; below, in tiny letters, ΧΑΡΙΛΕΩ. Rev. NEΟΠΟΛITΩN Man-headed bull walking right, head facing; above, Nike flying right to crown the bull; below, K. HN Italy 579. Sambon 469c. SNG ANS 359 ( same dies ). SNG Ashmolean 112 ( same dies ). SNG Copenhagen 423. SNG Paris 796 ( same dies ). A beautiful piece of lovely style with a wonderful old cabinet tone. Struck slightly off center and with minor marks and flan faults on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
