Description

ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Artuqids (Mardin). Najm al-Din Alpi, AH 547-572 / AD 1152-1176. Dirham (Bronze, 32 mm, 11.89 g, 9 h), uncertain mint (Mardin?). Draped male bust facing slightly left, wearing triangular jewelled tiara; around in Kufic, 'al-malik al-alim al-adil najm al-din malik diyarbakr'. Rev. Draped female bust facing, wearing three-pointed crenelated crown and necklace; around in Kufic, 'abu al-muzaffar alpi bin tumartash bin il-ghazi bin artuq sanah thaman wa khamsin wa khamsami'a'. Spengler & Sayles 40. Repatinated and with a minor scrape on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
