SIGNIS RECEPTIS / S - P / Q - R Round shield inscribed [CL•V•], flanked by signum on the left and aquila on the right. BMC 423. Cohen 267 var. (position of the signum and aquila switched). RIC 87b. Nicely toned. Somewhat porous, otherwise, very fine.
The reverse refers to one of Augustus' greatest diplomatic successes, namely the return of the Roman standards in 20 BC, which the Parthians had captured from Crassus, L. Decidius Saxa, and Mark Antony in earlier campaigns.
