Description

★ Rare and very likely the finest known example ★

LYDIA. Saitta. Crispina, Augusta, 178-182. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 30 mm, 16.55 g, 1 h), Okt. Artemidoros, first archon, circa 179-180. ΚΡΙCΠΕΙΝΑ CΕΒΑCΤΗ Draped bust of Crispina to right. Rev. ΕΠΙ ΟΚΤ ΑΡΤΕΜΙ ΑΡΧ Α•CΑΙ/Τ ΗΝ ⲰΝ (sic!) Aphrodite, nude, standing facing, head to right, within tetrastyle temple with pellet in pediment and acroteria atop. BMC 39 corr. ( same dies, but spelling error not noted). GPRC Lydia 81 corr. ( same dies, but spelling error not noted). RPC IV.2 online 1395 corr. (spelling error not noted). Rare and very likely the finest known example, with a stern portrait and a beautiful olive green patina. Nearly extremely fine.

Ex Leu 11, 14 May 2022, 195 and previously from a European collection, formed before 2005.
