LOWER DANUBE. Uncertain tribe. Mid to late 3rd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.56 g, 12 h), imitating Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; on back of the head, rectangular countermark. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, lyre. Cf. Price 1844 (for prototype from Kolophon). Very rare. Minor marks and with light doubling, otherwise, very fine.
