Description

SASANIAN KINGS. Bahram II, 276-293. Obol (Silver, 14 mm, 0.70 g, 3 h). Diademed and draped bust of Bahram II to right, wearing winged crown with a great korymbos on top; long beard with two rings and thick tufts of curly hair at the back; two ribbons rising from behind head; deteriorated Pahlavi legend along the dotted rim. Rev. Fire altar flanked by two regal attendants holding scepters, the one on the left wearing winged crown with a great korymbos on top, the other wearing mural crown; to left and right deteriorated Pahlavi legend. Göbl type I/1. SNS II, type I/1. Rare. Somewhat porous, otherwise, very fine.
