ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Muhammad, AH 737-738 / AD 1337-1338. Dinar (Gold, 21 mm, 4.65 g, 9 h), type B, Bardhaʿa, AH 738 = 1337/8. Within a 16-foil, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); the names of the four Rashidun Caliphs around. Rev. Within a looped hexafoil, ‘al-sulṭān al-ʿālam / Muḥammad khallada Allāh / mulkahū wa dawlatahū’ (‘The sultan of the world Muhammad. May Allah perpetuate his kingdom and state’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘ḍarb – Bardhaʿa – fī sana – thamān wa – thalāthīn [wa] – sabʿa miʾa’ (‘Struck in Bardhaʿa in the year 738’ in Arabic).
