ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad Khudabanda Öljeytü, AH 703-716 / AD 1304-1316. Dinar (Gold, 21 mm, 4.30 g, 12 h), Type B, mint illegible, AH 710 = 1310/1. Shiʿa kalima in a central circle, ‘Allāh / lā ilāha illā / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh / ʿAlī walī Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Ali is the friend of Allah’ in Arabic); to right and left, ‘bism ˗ al-karīm’ (‘In the name of [Allah,] the Generous’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammad’ (‘O Allah! Bless Muhammad’ in Arabic), followed by the names of the twelve Shiʿa imams. Rev. Within a quatrefoil, ‘ḍuriba fī / ayyām dawla al-mawlā / al-sulṭān al-aʿẓam mālik riqāb / al-umam Ūljāytū Sulṭān ghiyāth / al-dunyā wa al-dīn Khudābanda Muḥammad / khallada Allāh / mulkahū’ (‘Struck in the days of the state of the Lord, the Supreme Sultan, Owner of the Necks of the Peoples, Uljaytu Sultan, Helper of the World and the Religion, Khudabanda Muhammad.
