Fals (Bronze, 20 mm, 2.71 g, 3 h), Madinat al-Salam, AH 166 = 782/3. ‘lā ilāha illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him’ in Arabic); in the margin, citing the mint official Nusayr, ‘ḍuriba bi Madīnat al-Salām sana sitt wa sittīn wa miʾa ʿalā yaday Nuṣayr’ (‘Struck in Madinat al-Salam in the year 166 under the hands of Nusayr’ in Arabic). Rev. ‘al-khalīfa / al-Mahdī Muḥammad / amīr al-muʾminīn’ (‘Caliph al-Mahdi Muhammad, Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic); unclear names above and below; in the margin, ‘bism Allāh Muḥammad rasūl Allāh ṣalla Allāh ʿalayh wa sallam’ (‘In the name of Allah.
