Description

LUCANIA. Herakleia. Circa 281-278 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 19 mm, 7.76 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with Skylla hurling a stone on the bowl; behind her neck, K. Rev. ՒHPAKΛHIΩN - AΘA Herakles standing facing, holding club in his right hand and bow and arrow in his left; lion skin draped over his left arm; to upper left, jug. HN Italy 1384. SNG ANS 75. Van Keuren 85. Struck somewhat off center from worn dies, otherwise, about very fine.
