Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 400-390 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.49 g, 6 h). Nude warrior, holding bridles in his right hand and carrying small round shield in his left, about to dismount from horse galloping to left; below horse, A. Rev. TAPAΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding ball of wool in his right hand and placing his left on the dolphin's tail; below dolphin, Σ. Fischer-Bossert 528 (V218/R401). HN Italy 876. SNG ANS 926. Vlasto 435 ( same obverse die ). Struck from somewhat worn dies and with a scratch on the reverse, otherwise, nearly very fine.
