Description

PHOENICIA. Tyre. 126/5 BC-AD 65/6. Shekel (Silver, 23 mm, 14.06 g, 12 h), CY 125 = 2/1 BC. Laureate head of Melkart to right, lion skin tied around neck. Rev. TYPO[Y IEPAΣ] KAI AΣYΛOY Eagle standing left on prow, wings closed and with palm frond behind; to left, ΡKE above club; to right, KP above monogram of MI; between eagle's legs, 𐤁 (B in Punic). DCA Tyre 448. HGC 10, 357. RPC I 4663. Some scratches on the obverse and horn silver on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
