Description

★ Well centered and of fine style ★

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.63 g, 6 h), Tarsos, under Philotas or Philoxenos, circa 323-317. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet decorated with a coiled serpent. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Nike standing front, head to left, with her wings spread, holding laurel wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; to outer left, monogram of ANT; below right wing, Σ. Price 3041. Well centered and of fine style. A few light marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the James Knox Collection of Biblical related coins, ex Gorny & Mosch 257, 15 October 2018, 299 and previously privately acquired from Classical Numismatic Group (with original dealer's ticket).
