ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Marwan II ibn Muhammad, AH 127-132 / AD 744-750. Fals (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.05 g, 12 h), Pictorial type, Hims. Within a circle, elephant to right; in the margin, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh waḥdahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a central circle, ‘Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh / Ḥimṣ’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Hism’ in Arabic). Album 178.1. Very crudely struck and with some deposits, otherwise, fine.
