Description

Andronicus II Palaeologus, 1282-1328. Hyperpyron (Electrum, 23 mm, 3.91 g, 5 h), Constantinopolis, 1282-1294. Bust of Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls furnished with six groups of towers; to left, C above N; to right, C above N. Rev. Nimbate Andronicus II crouching in proskynesis before Christ, standing facing, holding book in his left hand and placing his right hand on the head of the emperor; in field to right, IC / XC; to left, name of the emperor; to right, N. SB 2326. Slightly clipped and with graffiti, otherwise, very fine.
