Anonymous, 86 BC. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.89 g, 8 h). Head of Jupiter (?) to right, wearing oak-wreath; below neck truncation, thunderbolt. Rev. Jupiter in fast quadriga to right, holding reins in his left hand and hurling thunderbolt with his right. Babelon (Anonyme) 226. Crawford 350A/2. RBW 1333. Sydenham 723. Harshly cleaned, otherwise, good very fine.
Though usually described as Apollo, the head of the god on the obverse of these coins is most likely that of a youthful Jupiter, the oak wreath and the thunderbolt being his attributes. The same god is depicted on the reverse.
