PHILISTIA (PALESTINE). Uncertain mint. Mid 5th century-333 BC. Drachm (Silver, 13 mm, 4.00 g, 12 h). Head of Athena (?) to right, wearing Corinthian helmet. Rev. AΘ[E] Owl standing right, head facing; all within incuse square. HGC -. Huth -. Gitler & Tal -. SNG ANS -. Apparently unpublished. Struck somewhat off center, otherwise, fine.
The shape on the obverse heavily resembles a Corinthian helmet, which is only rarely encountered on the Philistian coinage (cf. Gitler & Tal II.3D for drachms showing a head of Athena to left with a crested Corinthian helmet on the obverse and with a winged deity on the reverse).
