Description

PHRYGIA. Apameia. Circa 166-133 BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 26 mm, 11.64 g, 1 h), circa 150-140. Cista mystica from which snake coils; all within wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. Two snakes coiled around a bow case; to left, monogram of AΠ; to right, cap with hanging ligatures. Kleiner & Noe -, cf. series 21 (pileus surmounted by star). Roma E-Sale 18 (2015), 463. Extremely rare. Harshly cleaned and rough, otherwise, good very fine.
