LOW COUNTRIES. Antwerpen. Alexander Farnese, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands, 1578-1592. Medal 1585 (Bronze, 43 mm, 22.08 g, 12 h), on the capture of the city. In the style of Jacob Jonghelinck. A later aftercast. ALEXANDER•FARNES•PAR•PLA•PRIN•BELG•DVM•GVBERN• Armored bust of Alexander Farnese to right, wearing ruff and order of the Golden Fleece. Rev. IN VICTO OPTI-MO PRINCIPI / 15-85 Victory column; all within wreath. Smolderen, Jonghelinck, 97. Van Loon I, 354. Good very fine.
