Description

ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Artuqids (Mardin). Najm al-Din Alpi, AH 547-572 / AD 1152-1176. Dirham (Bronze, 32 mm, 14.45 g, 9 h). Diademed and draped male busts facing; Alpi’s title ‘Najm al-Dīn’ above, ‘malik Diyārbakr’ (‘King of Diyarbakr’ in Arabic) below; tamgha to lower left. Rev. Byzantine emperor standing facing being crowned by Saint Mary, the Theotokos, standing facing; genealogy of Alpi around as ‘Abū al-Muẓaffar Alpī Timirtāsh ibn Īl Ghāzī ibn Urtuq’ (in Arabic). Album 1827.3. Some earthen deposits, otherwise, good very fine.
