Citing the ruler as ‘al-muwaffaq - li ṭāʿat Allāh’ (‘Successful in obeying Allah’ in Arabic) on the obverse, and ‘al-Riḍā min āli Muḥammad’ (‘al-Rida of the family of Muhammad’ in Arabic) on the reverse. ‘al-muwaffaq / ashhadu an lā ilāha illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū / li ṭāʿat Allāh’ (‘I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him. Successful in obeying Allah’ in Arabic); inner margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dīnār bi al-Muḥammadiyya sana sitta ʿashra wa thalātha miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah. This dinar was struck in Muhammadiya in the year 316’ in Arabic); outer margin, ‘udhina lilladhīna yuqātalūn biʾannahum ẓulimū wa inna Allāh ʿalā naṣrihim laqadīr’ (‘Permission [to fight] is given to those upon whom war is made because they are oppressed, and Allah is indeed able to give them victory’ in Arabic; Qurʾān 22: 39). Rev. ‘li-llāh / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh / al-Riḍā min āli Muḥammad’ (‘To Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. al-Rida of the family of Muhammad’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘innamā yurīd Allāh liyudhhiba ʿankum al-rijs ahl al-bayt wa yuṭahhirakum taṭhīran’ (‘Allah only wishes to remove uncleanness from you, O people of the House, and to purify you with a thorough purifying’ in Arabic; Qurʾān 33: 33).
