Fals (Bronze, 20 mm, 3.53 g, 4 h), struck under Governor al-Abbas ibn Muhammad, al-Jazira, AH 130s-140s / AD 750s-760s. ‘lā ilāh-a / illā Allāh / waḥdahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One’ in Arabic); the marginal legend reads ‘amara al-amīr al-ʿAbbās ibn Muḥammad aʿadda Allāh bi qadrihī’ (‘Ordered [to be struck] Governor al-Abbas ibn Muhammad, may Allah reward him’ in Arabic). Rev. ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); mint formula in the margin: ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-fals bi al-Jazira’ (‘In the name of Allah.
