ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Mu'awiya I ibn Abi Sufyan, AH 41-60 / AD 661-680. Drachm (Silver, 31 mm, 3.79 g, 9 h), Arab-Sasanian Khosrau type, SK (Sijistan), AH 48 = 668/9. Draped bust resembling Khosrau II to right, wearing elaborate mural crown; behind head, ‘GDE ʾp̄zwt'’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘hwslwb’, i.e. ‘Husraw’ (‘Khosrau’ in Pahlavi); in outer margin, ‘bism Allāh ˗ rabbī’ (‘In the name of Allah, my Lord’ in Arabic)’. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and crescent; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, SK (abbreviation for the name of the mint in Pahlavi). Album 5. Struck from a worn obverse die and with an edge crack, otherwise, very fine.
