Description

Fausta, Augusta, 324-326. Follis (Silvered bronze, 20 mm, 2.91 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, 326. FLAV MAX FAVSTA AVG Draped bust of Fausta to right. Rev. SALVS REI PVBLICAE / CONS Fausta (or Salus), veiled, standing front, head to left, holding two children in her arms; in field to left, A. RIC 12. Minor roughness on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

As a rule, in every mint, coins for Helena and Fausta were struck in equal number. Today, however, coins of Fausta from Constantinople are rarer than those of Helena. Ramskold (Aborted production [2020b]) postulated that coins for Fausta were withdrawn from circulation after her death as part of her subsequent damnatio memoriae.
