★ An important die match ★
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 20 mm, 4.07 g, 5 h), Constantinopolis, 326. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right. Rev. PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS / CONS Campgate with two turrets and no doors; above, star; in field to left, A. RIC 9. Very minor deposits on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.
This remarkable coin is a key example for understanding the inner workings of a Roman mint, as it shows a reverse die match with both a coin struck for Crispus (held in Paris) and Constantius Caesar (Pegasi 13 (2005), 508). It thereby proves that a die pool was used for the Caesars in this emission.
