PHRYGIA. Prymnessus. Gordian I, 238. Tetrassarion (Orichalcum, 33 mm, 14.78 g, 1 h). ΑΥ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC CΕΜ ΡΩΜ [ΑΦΡΙ C]ΕΒ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian I to right. Rev. ΠΡΥΜΝΗCCΕΩΝ Dikaiosyne seated left, holding scales in her right hand and scepter in her left, wearing polos crowned by an eagle, her throne supported by two winged figures, eacha with fish tail; in exergue, two Erotes on backs of capricorns facing each other. RPC VII.1 776. SNG von Aulock 3946 = Von Aulock, Phrygiens II 1124. Of the highest rarity, the second known example. One of the few provincial coins struck in the name of Gordian I, and with a highly interesting reverse. Fine.
