★ An unusually attractive bronze of Hormizd I ★
KUSHANO-SASANIANS. Hormizd I, circa 265-295. AE (Bronze, 16 mm, 2.49 g, 8 h), probably Balkh. Draped bust of Hormizd I to right, wearing crown with decorated korymbos and a lion's head; before head, 'King Hormizd' in Pahlawi; in upper field to left, tamgha. Rev. Exalted god sitting facing on throne, nimbate and with flaming hair, head turned to left, presenting with his right hand two ribboned diadem to Hormizd II, standing front, head to right, making gesture of acceptance toward deity and sacrificing with his right hand over altar set on the ground between them. ANS Kushan 2222. An unusually attractive piece. Minor deposits, otherwise, very fine.
