SASANIAN KINGS. Ardashir I, 223/4-240. Tetradrachm (Billon, 26 mm, 12.82 g, 10 h). Crowned and draped bust of Ardashir I to right; to left and right, ‘mzdysn bgy ʾrthštr ˗ MRKAn MRKA ʾyrʾn’, i.e. ‘mazdēsn bay Ardaxšēr šāhān šāh Ērān’ (‘The Mazda-worshipping Lord, Ardashir, King of Kings of the Iranians’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar; to left and right, ‘NWRA ZY ˗ ʾrthštr’, i.e. ‘ādur ī Ardaxšēr’ (‘Fire of Ardashir’ in Pahlavi). Göbl type II/1/2. SNS I, type IIh/3a. Rare. Porous. Fine.
