LOWER DANUBE. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd century BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 2.84 g, 12 h), 'Drachmen mit Pallaskopf' type. Celticized helmeted head of Athena to right. Rev. Celticized Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, amphora; to right, imitative legend. Dembski 1496. Flesche -. Lanz -. OTA 597/1. Very rare and unusually well preserved. A beautifully toned example struck in very high relief. Somewhat crystallized and with minor edge chipping, otherwise, good very fine.
