Description

★ A well struck and beautifully toned argenteus of Diocletian ★

Diocletian, 284-305. Argenteus (Silver, 19 mm, 3.73 g, 6 h), Rome, circa 294-295. DIOCLETI-ANVS AVG Laureate head of Diocletian to right. Rev. VIRTVS MILITVM The four tetrarchs sacrificing over tripod in front of six-turreted camp gate. Gautier 49. RIC 27a. RSC 516†e. Well struck and beautifully toned. The reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the Agricola Collection, privately acquired from Dr. Michael Brandt in April 1995 (with collector's and original dealer's tickets).
