ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Mahdi, AH 158-169 / AD 775-785. Drachm (Silver, 25 mm, 3.12 g, 3 h), Lords of Bukhara, Bukhara. Crown bust to right; behind, 'al-Mahdi' in Kufic; before, 'Lord of Bukhara' in Sogdian. Rev. Sasanian fire altar, which is the outline of the divine head facing right, flanked by two attending priests (mabedh) standing facing each other. Album 94. Walker, Arab-Sassanian, 319ff. Very rare in this condition. Minor graffito of X on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
