Optatus, circa 4th century. Seal (Lead, 17 mm, 11.66 g, 12 h). Carthago standing front, head to left, holding fruits in both hands, within wreath. Rev. OPT-ATI in two lines within wreath; below, horizontal line. Cf. Boersema/Dalzell, Vossen collection 155 (for a seal bearing a similar standing figure, described as Carthago). Cf. Münz Zentrum Rheinland 151 (2009), 910 (for a seal with similar imagery on one side, also identified as Carthago, and bearing an image of a standing Roma on the other side). An intriguing Roman seal bearing the name of its owner. Minor marks, otherwise, very fine.
From a European collection, formed before 2005.
