Description

Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 20 mm, 2.71 g, 12 h), Rome, circa 320. CONSTA-NTINVS AVG Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. VIRTV-S AVGG / P - R / R S Campgate with open doors and four turrets. RIC -. Extremely rare. Thick deposits, otherwise, good fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This extremely rare piece is one of four known examples in private hands for Constantine I with this bust (D2) paired with the rare reverse type 'four turrets, open doors'. Three are from officina S and one from officina Q. An additional example from officina S is kept in Brussels.
